As part of the expansion of the Northern Plaza of the Grand Mosque, at least 146 properties have been identified for demolition to make way for pedestrian tunnels leading to the Grand Mosque, said a senior development official. The prices for the properties range between SR1,000 to SR50,000 for each square meter depending on its proximity to the Grand Mosque, said Essam Traimi, assistant director of the Northern Plaza Development Committee. The demolition of private properties for the expansion will include some in Dahlat Harb, 45 properties in Jarwal, and 21 properties in Al-Quba. All identified properties are immediately handed over to construction contractors, he said. Makkah Mayor Osama Al-Bar inspected Saturday the areas set for demolition and gave assurances the expansion work will be completed as scheduled to serve the guests of the holy city.
