Deccan Chargers sealed their first win over Kings XI Punjab in the Indian Premier League when they won by six runs here Friday. Andrew Symonds put on a superb all-round performance as he scored 53, took one wicket and three catches to help Deccan Chargers to its first home win. Set 171 to win, Punjab was progressing slowly at 104-7 in the 17th over when Irfan Pathan exploded to create some excitement. Irfan hit two sixes and two fours in that over bowled by RP Singh, and suddenly Punjab needed 19 from the final over. Jaskaran Singh, unused until then, struck with his first ball, getting Irfan to hole out to deep midwicket and the game was over. Scores: Deccan Chargers 170-7 (Andrew Symonds 53, Adam Gilchrist 33; Yuvraj Singh 2-21) beat Kings XI Punjab 164-8 (Irfan Pathan 60, Ravi Bopara 38; Chaminda Vaas 2-27) by six runs. Hayden in form Matthew Hayden, playing with the Mongoose, the shorter, thicker bat with the longer handle, hit 93 off 43 balls to almost singlehandedly chase down Delhi Daredevils' imposing target. Batting first Delhi scored 185-6 and Chennai Super Kings scored the required runs for the loss of five wickets with five balls to spare. If Hayden scored 93 of the 142 while at crease, Virender Sehwag pummelled 74 out of 103 for Delhi. That Hayden's effort was longer meant Chennai Super Kings prevailed in the battle of superb fielding. It was three good catches from Chennai's stand-in captain, Suresh Raina, and a spectacular effort at the boundary from Justin Kemp, a near replica of his ICL catch, that kept Delhi under 200. Tillakaratne Dilshan took a blinder charging in from long-on to deny Hayden a century, and Chennai a jitterless finish. Scores: Chennai Super Kings 190-5 (Hayden 93, Raina 49 not out) beat Delhi Daredevils 185-6 (Sehwag 74, Manhas 32 not out; Murali 2-25) by 5 wickets.
