The Administration of Prisons here have been ordered to pay a man SR35,000 in compensation for delaying his release from prison by 10 days. The Board of Grievances in Asir had initially ordered that the Administration of Prisons pay the man compensation of SR9,800, but the amount was increased by the Auditing Board at the Riyadh Board of Grievances. The Auditing Board had proposed the compensation to be SR3,500 for 10 days, which amounts to SR35,000. The board stated he had stayed in prison for four extra days because of a delay by the judiciary. The Administration of Prisons had nothing to do with the extra four days, the board stated. The verdict of the Asir court stated that the time the man spent in the prison beyond his term, was a breach of Shariah and other regulations. The plaintiff has filed a challenge to the verdict of the Auditing Board. He said he wanted more money because the harm inflicted on him was “much bigger than the compensation” of SR35,000.
