Power was disconnected at the Madina Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) Monday because the electricity bill had not been paid. The General Secretariat said that they had sent the electricity bill along with other unpaid bills to the chairman of the MCCI, but he had not approved payment. A man had to be rescued after being trapped in the elevator when the power was cut. An official source at the Saudi Electricity Company said, on condition of anonymity, that many warnings were sent to the chamber before the power was cut. The rented building of the MCCI is registered with the electricity company as a private residence rather than a government office. The company employee, who took the decision to cut the power at the building “was just doing his job,” the source added. The MCCI, however, managed to get the power restored after reporting their case to the company. A new deadline has been set for the bill to be paid in full.
