Police are investigating the discovery of a female body found wrapped in a black bag in a south Jeddah street on Sunday. Police were called to the site after passers-by noticed a foul stench emanating from the bag and the area was cordoned off as forensic investigators began to collect evidence. No official cause of death has yet been revealed, but police said that car tire marks close to where the body was found suggest that it was deliberately dumped by unidentified persons. A police spokesman said the woman was most probably an illegal resident who had overstayed the time limit of her visa, in line with a series of similar incidents where persons who have died of natural causes have had their bodies abandoned in public places as acquaintances of the deceased fear their illegal status in the Kingdom being exposed to police.
