AC Milan and England midfielder David Beckham went off with a serious-looking ankle or foot injury late in Sunday's 1-0 Serie A win over Chievo. Beckham was getting ready to kick a ball unchallenged when he suddenly pulled up and signalled to the bench despite second-placed Milan having used all its substitutes. A Sky television reporter on the San Siro touchline said Beckham had told the bench “It's broken, it's broken” as he came off. There was no further news on the extent of the injury for the 34-year-old, who was hoping to be part of England's World Cup squad in June. Substitute Clarence Seedorf fired in a thunderous strike in stoppage time to give AC Milan the 1-0 win and slash the gap with Serie A leader Inter Milan to a point. Inter lost 3-1 at Catania Friday. Juventus squandered a three-goal lead and drew 3-3 with Siena at home Sunday, missing out on a chance to move back into the Champions League places. AS Roma was held to a 3-3 draw at Livorno, with Livorno captain Cristiano Lucarelli scoring a hat trick. Palermo lost 3-2 at Udinese, which got two goals from Antonio Floro Flores. Both teams stay level at the top of the league on 65 points, with Madrid leading on goal difference. Valencia is third on 47 points. “They're two brave, proud players who want to win,” said Madrid director general Jorge Valdano of Ronaldo and Higuain. “This is what makes them the best in the world.” “Today Leo deserves all the plaudits because the game was very tight but he managed to crack the midfield,” said Barcelona president Joan Laporta. Coach Pep Guardiola had to watch from the stands after his dismissal during last weekend's 2-2 draw against Almeria for dissent. Also Sunday, Joseba Llorente and Damian Escudero scored as Villarreal beat Xerez 2-0. Llorente gathered a pass from Ariel Ibagaza in the 32nd minute and shot low past goalkeeper Jose Maria Jimenez.
