The recommendations of the Gulf Environment Forum (GEF) will be announced this week and will be submitted to the King, Prince Turki Bin Nasser, President of the Presidency of Meteorology and Environment Talking to reporters here Tuesday, the Prince added that the speech of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, delivered during the opening session of the forum, will act as an important guide in making recommendations. Prince Turki said the forum was a success because of the large number of speakers from in and outside the Kingdom. He commended the organizing committees for the “good job” they carried out. More than 1,250 experts, researchers and other delegates attended the event. The Kingdom is “very serious” about implementing the recommendations quickly, he said. He said that a fund will be established to support environmentally aware small and large companies. He added that the fund will not be profit-making and will have limited resources to encourage new environmental projects. He announced that a plan is being drawn up to include environment education in all grades at schools. The family, particularly women, play an important role in inculcating environmental awareness in the minds of the young; and for ensuring that both the school and home are part of efforts to protect the environment, he said. Prince Turki said the forum and exhibition will be held twice a year. The next one will be in Riyadh, followed by the rest of the country's regions, he said. Meanwhile, the Prince said that the ministerial meeting to be held in Sudan Thursday, is aimed at protecting the Red Sea environment and its shores. “It is an annual meeting. It takes place every year in one of the countries overlooking the Red Sea.” A full statement on the meeting will be issued Friday, he said.
