On Tuesday more than 6,000 runners will start this year's Mobily Marathon in Jeddah, including international runners from Arab and African countries and hundreds of athletes with special needs. The Governor of Jeddah, Prince Mesh'al Bin Majed Bin Abdul Aziz, will attend the ceremony for the winners on Wednesday at Saleh Al-Turki Hall. Also in attendance will be the Al-Bir Charitable Society head Mazen Batarjee, Executive President of Mobily Khaled Al-Kaf and the company's Western Region Director Taher Al-Dabbagh. The marathon will start in stages. Those with special needs will run from the starting point at the Corniche at 04.10 P.M. for three kilometers, those aged 18 and under will start at 04.40 P.M. for five kilometers, and finally at 05.25 P.M. professional runners will go for 15 kilometers on the Mobily Path from Al-Tahliyah Square at the Corniche to the finishing point for all runners near the Roshan Mall. Al-Dabbagh said the activities on Tuesday will be different from previous years because of the greater number of participants, more international runners and athletes from the Saudi national athletics team. The participation of those with special needs, he added, enhances the charitable purpose of the marathon. The winners of the two categories of professionals and students (18 and under) will get a car, a Citroen. There will also be cash awards for those who finish in the first 15. The total value of prizes is more than SR250,000, he said.
