The role of the Saudi media in supporting the Kingdom's development process and economic growth, and media practitioners' responsibility in enhancing progress in the private business sector will be the key topics to be discussed in a dialogue between officials of the Ministry of Culture and Information, leading businessmen, and representatives of the media sector. The dialogue on March 14 at the Asharqia Chambers of Commerce and Industry will be sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Information and hosted by the Asharqia Chambers. Adnan A. Al-Naeim, secretary general of the Asharqia Chamber, said all intellectuals, journalists, writers and artists are invited to participate in the dialogue. Dr. Abdul Aziz Khoja, Minister of Culture and Information, will head the panel from the government information agency, while the private business sector will be chaired by Abdulrahman Rashed Al Rashed, president of Asharqia Chambers. Turki Al-Sudairy, chairman of the Saudi Journalists Association and editor of Al-Riyadh newspaper, will represent the Saudi media. Leading Saudi editors will also join Sudairy in the media panel. “The dialogue reflects the chamber appreciation to the role of media in serving the country, in enhancing the development process, and supporting our national economic development,” said Al Rashed. “The national business sector, including that of the Eastern Province, recognizes the role of the Saudi media in serving the national economy,” he added. The dialogue will focus on the roles and objectives of media practitioners, including writers, journalists, broadcasters, and artists, in promoting national development and the economic reforms initiated by King Abdullah. The dialogue will also address how Saudi media should do more to strengthen and enlighten the position of the Kingdom in the global economy.
