The drivers of three minibuses transporting women schoolteachers were killed when they were hit by a passing truck on the Tabuk-Dhiba highway on Saturday. Eleven of the teachers were also injured. The three minibuses were parked beside the highway after one of them suffered a breakdown when the truck reportedly traveling at high speed struck them as the drivers worked on repairs, killing two of them instantly. The third died after arriving at hospital. A minibus passenger said there were a total of 29 teachers in the three vehicles at the time, and that one of the drivers killed was the husband of one of them. Most of the injured women had been discharged from hospital by late Saturday. A police spokesman blamed the incident on the truck driver's “carelessness” and said he had been detained for questioning.
