Authorities are investigating a 23-year-old second wife for allegedly trying to murder the six-month-old daughter of the first wife. The 29-year-old first wife, the mother of Anwaar, accused the second wife of pouring chlorine into her baby's right eye and mouth. This caused damage to the girl's throat and digestive system. The first wife reported the matter to the Al-Jafar Police Department in Al-Ahsa, accusing the second wife of attempted murder following a medical examination of the baby. The accused is currently being held at a women's correctional facility pending further investigations, according to Eastern Province police spokesman Brigadier Yousef Al-Qahtani. Vice President of the National Society of Human Rights (NSHR), Dr. Saleh Al-Khathlan, said the society is following up on the case to determine the veracity of the allegations. Anwaar's mother claimed that this was not the first time her daughter had suffered an injury. At one stage, she had a broken leg and then a fractured thigh. She said the second wife told her that her two-and-a-half-year-old son caused the injuries to his sister unintentionally. But after this latest incident, the first wife said she is determined to pursue the charges. She said that her husband had tried to convince her that the injuries were “an accident”.
