A Saudi soldier was killed in Jizan on Thursday when he was shot by drug smugglers. A spokesman for the Jizan Border Guard said that a group of smugglers were spotted at dawn attempting to cross the Kingdom's border illegally. “Warnings were given telling them to retrace their steps but they opened fire with machine guns at which point officers returned fire forcing the illegal entrants back across the border,” the spokesman said. “One soldier was shot and he later passed away in hospital.” The spokesman named the soldier as Saleh Al-Tulaidi. 29 blocks of hashish were recovered in the incident.
