Municipal authorities here have announced that the Dammam underpass near Prince Mohammed Bin Fahd sports stadium will be reopened for public use on Friday. According to contractors, the major repair work has been completed successfully. This past week workers have been busy adding the final touches to the project, including painting the underpass walls, fixing lights, and placing fluorescent marks at the entrance of the tunnel. The estimated cost of the entire repair project was SR 48.6 million, which was paid by the contractors whose mistakes necessitated the repairs. The reopening of this highway underpass will bring relief to Eastern Province residents who have suffered from 14 months of traffic chaos while the underpass was being repaired.
