Customs at Jeddah Islamic Port has seized massive quantities of counterfeited spare car parts an importer was attempting to bring into the country. Customs officials are still counting the items because of the huge numbers involved. The items arrived in closed boxes with no labels. The counterfeited trademark of a well-known company was found printed on the inside of these boxes. The boxes were meant to be turned inside to deceive customers. Director of Customs, Saleh Bin Muni'a Al-Khulaiwi, conducted an inspection of the port and the Red Sea Gate project Tuesday. At the end of the tour, Al-Khulaiwi met with a number of officials from the port and King Abdul Aziz Airport's customs department. He asked them to increase the use of laboratories. These laboratories have been used, in coordination with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization, for the detection of counterfeited goods.
