Tuwaijri, Civil Defense Director General, has said that there are no women working in the Civil Defense and that any women accompanying rescue efforts are part of voluntary work that neither conflicts with nor is part of Civil Defense operations. Adil Zamzami, head of the Civil Defense in Makkah, has said meanwhile that “women are needed as an active member of society, which has led us to start recruitment programs for volunteer women in collaboration with the Ministry of Education”. The volunteer women will, according to Zamzami, play a “supporting role to Civil Defense men in accordance with Islamic Shariah and the nature of the conservative society”.
