The Emirate has received all the documents it needs to consider a dispute between a local businessman and a mayoralty official over a prized piece of beachfront property. The businessman has accused the mayoralty official of changing the blueprints of the beachfront property so that it encroached on his property which he was turning into a resort. In his complaint, the businessman demanded that the mayoralty official stop all construction of residential units on the land. The mayoralty official has denied the claims and said that he has proof of his ownership. Wail Bafaqih, the mayoralty official's lawyer, said his client and two brothers had bought the land. He said that the property was in such a position that 90 percent of the area overlooked the sea. The lawyer reiterated that his client had purchased the residential plot from the project's management. He said the lot includes a 65-meter long seafront area shown in the engineering drawings and approved by the authorities. Bafaqih said his client had a title deed notarized by the notary public in Jeddah which proved he and his brothers owned the land. He said the status of his client at the mayoralty had not in any way influenced the seller of the land. “My client reserves the right to sue the businessman because of his allegedly false allegations,” he added. Meanwhile, Riyadh Al-Zahrani, the businessman's representative, has called on the authorities to intervene in the matter and restore ownership to him.
