Nine doctors and technicians should be held responsible for causing the death of a dentist here, according to the deceased man's lawyer. Dentist Tariq Al-Juhani died because of alleged negligence by the team who carried out surgery on him at the facility. Lawyer Dr. Tariq Aal Ibrahim accused the private hospital of committing mistakes inside the operation theater during the surgery, including allowing unlicensed persons to participate in the procedure. He also accused them of negligence and recklessness and for not having the necessary technical equipment required for the operation. Aal Ibrahim has called on the authorities to severely punish the hospital and nine surgeons, anesthetists and technicians who took part in the surgery on Al-Juhani. He said he had submitted a document to Jeddah's Shariah Medical Commission outlining “clear technical errors”. The Shariah Medical Commission is expected to hear the hospital's response to the lawyer's accusations Tuesday. Previously the hospital had been given extra time to prepare a written response. The chairman of the commission, Jeddah General Court judge, Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Ojairi, said the committee had already listened to the lawyer's accusations. Previously, the Violations Committee of Jeddah's Health Affairs had detected four major breaches at the hospital during an inspection. It had recommended the imposition of the largest possible fines on the facility. After Al-Juhani's death, Minister of Health Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Rabeah had ordered that the facility be closed down. The minister's decision was based on a Makkah Province Health Affairs report.
