The Hail District court has sentenced two employees of the International Islamic Relief Organization (IIRO) to prison and lashes for embezzling SR160,000 over four years and forging bank deposit receipts. The court's judge Sheikh Majed Al-Khalefi ruled that the first defendant serves four years in prison and receives 3,000 lashes while his accomplice gets three years and 3,000 lashes. The Administrative Court will look into the forgery charge. The verdict has been sent to the Appeal Court in Riyadh for final approval. The Prosecutor General has called for a doubling of the corporal punishment. Accountants at the IIRO uncovered the forgery when they audited the bank deposit receipts and found that the amounts shown on the receipts were not registered in the IIRO's bank account in Hail. When the General Prosecutors cross-examined the two swindlers they admitted to the crime.
