Checkpoint police at Al-Hamra in Jizan seized 3,200 bundles of the illegal plant qat on Saturday after calling in welders to perform a “more thorough” search of a suspicious truck. Officers' attentions fell on the fuel truck which was being driven by a Pakistani man, but a preliminary inspection failed to uncover any prohibited materials. Trusting their hunch, however, police called in welders to open the vehicle's tank container, whereupon they found 575kg of the banned leaf.
