The Saudi Gazette story that highlighted the renewed campaign for boycott of Danish products, particularly the medicines, created ripples in Denmark, according to a newspaper reporter of that country. “It was all quiet on the issue here (Denmark) but your recent story ‘Boycott of Danish products spreads' came out at a time when everyone here were under the impression that things are settling down to normalcy,” the reporter told the Saudi Gazette over the phone requesting anonymity. The Saudi Gazette story has become a burning topic, particularly among the media circles, he added. In fact, the reporter wanted to know the seriousness of the campaign, which now called for boycott of Danish medicines and how it would affect the Danish economy. He wanted to get contact details of Saudi importers, businessmen and those companies that deal in hospitals and pharmaceutical businesses. “There is no contact between the Danish government and the media here and we don't exactly know the real impact on the economic boycott of Danish products from the present campaign,” the reporter told from Denmark. The reporter said the people in Denmark are showing no interest to read controversial stories or to see blasphemous cartoons as were printed in Jyllands-Posten some three years ago. Meanwhile, the campaign runner here said the boycott of Danish pharmaceutical products has been receiving a very good response as more hospitals and pharmacies joining it. “Our call for boycott of Danish medicines is spreading fast,” he told the Saudi Gazette. To spread the call further he said the campaign runners are planning to host a press conference to expand the boycott, he added. “We are not in a mood to stop our campaign unless the media in Denmark behaves responsibly,” he said. __
