UEFA banned a Bosnian referee for life Wednesday because of his links to a European match-fixing ring, and cleared a top Bulgarian official of allegations that he helped fix an international friendly. UEFA said Novo Panic was banned “from any football activities” after an investigation on the basis of evidence uncovered by German police. European football's governing body also suspended Croatian assistant referee Tomislav Setka until July 2011, and Ukrainian ref Oleh Orekhov for 30 days pending a March 18 inquiry into his case. But top Bulgarian referee Anton Genov was cleared of wrongdoing after an investigation into irregular betting patterns during a Nov. 14 friendly between Macedonia and Canada. UEFA says all the disciplinary measures are subject to appeal.
