Seven girl students here allegedly attacked a teacher and destroyed a cookery room in protest at having their cellphones confiscated and scanned for possible immoral images, according to sources. The sources said the students at the 17th Girls Intermediate School in Makkah have allegedly admitted to the offense. The students had allegedly attacked the deputy principal. A committee from the Directorate of Education in Makkah, which was set up to investigate the incident, is in the process of questioning some teachers and the seven students. The sources said the committee had also summoned some of the guardians who had objected to penalties against the girls. The students apparently told the committee that they were searched in a very suspicious manner by their teachers, which they had never experienced any day even by their families. The deputy principal who was attacked by the students has been transferred to another school until the committee resolves the case. The committee has asked the school authority to repair the cookery room as soon as possible to enable students to use it. The committee has recommended providing the school with disciplinary regulations which will define penalties against students who attack or abuse their teachers.
