year-old Yemeni facing charges of stabbing to death an acquaintance in the Al-Kandara District last Friday has told investigators that he did it “because of an argument over a glass of araq”. The two reportedly fought over a glass of the locally produced alcoholic drink and ended up in a fierce argument. The accused told police that the two were inebriated at the time of the fight and that uncontrollable drunken anger led him to extract the knife and repeatedly stab his victim, killing him almost immediately. The killer fled the scene of the crime but was caught soon after by police, and the murder weapon was recovered from where he had hastily discarded it in an unpaved street in the area. The accused made no attempt to deny his involvement when officers arrested him. A police spokesman said that the case would be passed on to the Commission for Investigation and Prosecution once police had completed their investigations.
