day workshop on International Legal Framework for Counter-Terrorism and its Financing that concluded here Monday called for concerted efforts through mutual cooperation at international, regional and bilateral levels to combat terrorist activities, money laundering and related crimes. Nine-point recommendations also emphasized on the need for creating appropriate legislations within the framework of each country's constitution. The participants felt that there was a need for more such workshops organized in collaboration with UN regional offices. They also emphasized the importance of maintaining counter-terrorism measures based on UN charter. They appreciated the efforts of Saudi Arabia, which is signatory to various international agreements and treaties on counter-terrorism, money laundering and other related crimes. Some 1228 terrorist suspects were detained between Sep. 11, 2001 and March 2007, the Riyadh international workshop on combating terrorism was told Monday. The workshop also heard a paper from a consultant at the UN Drugs and Crime Bureau entitled “Human Rights Guarantees in the Light of Combating Terrorism”, which urged nations around the world to make concerted efforts to counter terrorism in accordance with international law and in consideration of human rights.
