An Asian resident in his 30s was arrested after falsely claiming that he had been kidnapped and had been forced to pay SR3,000 as ransom for his release. Investigations showed that the expatriate had lodged the false complaint with the police so that he could get the money he claimed he had paid reimbursed by his sponsor. The Asian, investigations showed, had concocted the scheme so that he could repay a debt to one of his compatriots. Brig. Yusuf Al-Qahtani, spokesman of the Eastern Province Police, said that the case had been referred to the Commission for Investigation and Prosecution (CIP) in Dammam for completion of necessary procedures.
