The brother of a Saudi woman, who allegedly died from swine flu in a private hospital in Jeddah, has accused her four doctors of negligence. Lateefa Al-Qadhi died at the hospital a few days after delivering her baby. She was afflicted with swine flu. The dead woman's brother, Bandar Al-Qadhi, has demanded that action be taken against the four doctors and for the hospital to be penalized for employing allegedly inefficient medical staff. Dr. Abdul Ghafoor Bazirbadi, Chairman of the Technical Followup Committee, confirmed that the committee has received a complaint from the family. He said the final case report would be referred on Thursday to the Director of Health Affairs in Jeddah for further action. The Shariah Medical Commission will also hear testimony from the litigants. In the lawsuit they filed at the Directorate of Health Affairs, the family accused the female gynecologist and obstetrician, the emergency doctor, internist and chest disease doctor of negligence and for allegedly not closely monitoring the women's condition. Bandar Al-Qadhi said the doctors gave his sister pain-killers and discharged her from hospital. He claimed this led to her health deteriorating five days after leaving the hospital. She was then admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the same hospital, where she died. Sources said that the brother intends taking the case to higher authorities.
