Jeddah Mayoralty is scouting for a site to construct an additional plant for environmentally safe disposal of industrial sewage. Industrial sewage – from factories and workshops – contains toxic waste like paints, solvents, organic and inorganic compounds, heavy elements, etc. The mayoralty is coordinating with the General Presidency for Meteorology and the Environment to find a suitable site. The site should be at least 25,000 square meters. The waste collection operation will be open to public bidding – the bidder will undertake to transport the industrial waster. A committee formed of the Jeddah Mayoralty, Jeddah Governorate, General Presidency for Meteorology and Environmental Protection, Civil Defense, Directorate General for water in Makkah Province, Industrial Area Administration, Ministry of Commerce and Industry and Chamber of Commerce and Industry has recommended that the mayoralty should coordinate with the Directorate General for Water and the General Presidency for Meteorology to determine the specifications of the industrial-waste tanker trucks to be used for the transportation. The trucks will transfer industrial waste from factories outside the city to the treatment plant to be constructed. Special tanker trucks are necessary to safely carry the industrial and hazardous wastes. The trucks will have a distinctive color with a horizontal red band so as to differentiate them from ordinary sewage tanker trucks and to monitor their movement. __
