About 3,500 students and staff at the girls section of International Indian School, Riyadh (IISR) had to evacuate classrooms on Sunday afternoon after a fire alarm. According to a school employee, who spoke on condition of anonymity, the fire broke out at the school's canteen triggering fire alarm at around 12.30 P.M. Based on instruction from school administration the teachers immediately evacuated the students from their classrooms to the open ground within the school premises. “The panicky situation led to some sort of stampede among the students. A number of primary students lost their school bags, winter jackets and mufflers. Some students fell down and received minor injuries and bruises. However, no one received any serious injuries,” sources said. Imthias Ahmad, IISR managing committee chairman, admitted that there was a minor stampede following the panicky situation created after the fire alarm.
