Thousands of Eastern Province residents are flocking to the Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz Science and Technology Center (Scitech) here to view an exhibition featuring the advent and transitions of the dinosaurs millions of years ago. The two-month long exhibition began earlier this week. The event, which is being showcased in the Eastern Province for the first time, is being held in collaboration with the British Natural History Museum and the Japanese company Kokoro's Dinosaurs Gallery, which provided replicas of dinosaurs to Scitech. Organizers said Scitech's goal is to disseminate knowledge about science and technology. In this particular show, students and adult visitors learn some of the theories that have been put forth to explain the reasons for the dinosaurs' extinction and they also raise their awareness of the environment and its preservation. Different varieties of dinosaurs such as Edmontosaurus, Dromaeosaurus, Tyrannosaurus Rex, with jaws that could crush a car in a single crunch, and Triceratops, with a mouth wide enough to swallow a whole man, are being exhibited in the man-made jungle of the exhibition center. The use of advanced technology in animatronics and the life-size skeletons of dinosaurs provide visitors with a thrilling, entertaining and memorable experience. “Scitech is affiliated to King Fahd University for Petroleum and Minerals. Its goal is to disseminate knowledge about science and the environment to people of all ages,” said Saeed Muhammad Samer, Scitech's Assistant Director General. Almost 3,000 people visit the exhibition daily, he added. In order to promote healthawareness among people visiting the exhibition, authorities have also organized pavilions of the Saudi Diabetes and Endocrine Association, Saudi Cancer Foundation and Anti Smoking Association, among others.
