Thick fog enveloped the Eastern Province on Saturday reducing the visibility to less than 100 meters. Motorists on the Dammam-Jubail highway and on the outskirts of the province had a harrowing time and were forced to move at a snail's pace with lights on. The inclement weather is likely to continue for a few more days, the weather office has said. In view of the foggy conditions particularly during the early morning hours, traffic police have urged motorists to be cautious and careful while driving. “Drivers should drive very carefully, and avoid speeding and overtaking in foggy conditions. If visibility is poor, motorists should park their vehicles by the roadside until the situation improves. Hazard lights should be switched on,” a traffic official told Saudi Gazette. “If a driver is forced to stop his vehicle, he should park it away from the road to avoid accidents and pile-ups, he said. “Motorists are also advised to maintain a decent distance from the vehicle in front of them,” he added. Temperatures in the Eastern Province which were warm during the day witnessed a gradual fall with the onset of the foggy conditions.
