Khurma have begun what they describe as “the largest campaign in the region's history” to crack down on illegal immigrants, persons without identity papers and workers in breach of labor and residency laws. Al-Khurma Police are working in collaboration with Makkah Police to conduct daily sweeps of residential districts, villages and remote areas, and say they have already produced results. “We hope to make the most of the help from Makkah Police to protect the public in these regions,” said Khalid Bin Luwi, chief of Al-Khurma Police who is fronting the campaign. “We've only just begun but we've already detained numerous wanted individuals and persons with no identity papers.”
