A woman who was sentenced by an Al-Rass Court to an 18-month jail sentence and 300 lashes for allegedly falsely accusing government employees has launched an appeal against the ruling. Sawsan Salim is currently being held at a women's prison in Buraidah. The accused has argued that two judges looked into her case, when only one judge was allowed to do this, according to a decision of the Higher Judicial Council issued in 1990. The woman said the case does not fall under the jurisdiction of the court. Furthermore, the court transferred the case to another judge at the Buraidah District Court. This was in violation of Article-5 of the Penal Procedures Regulation. In addition, she said the Prosecutor General did not specify the number of complaints she had filed. She was accused of filing 118 complaints in 2007.
