The Barangay Ginebra Kings barged into the semifinals of the 2009-2010 KFC PBA Philippine Cup Sunday night, finishing off the defending champion Talk N Text Tropang Texters, 113-100, in Game 5 of their quarterfinals series at the jam-packed Araneta Coliseum. J.C. Intal once again led the Kings, racking up a career-high 28 points, 10 rebounds, and three shot blocks. The Kings were in full control of the game right from the start as they outhustled, outshot and outrebounded a tired and woeful Talk N Text squad that earlier drew the rebuke of many basketball fans for forfeiting Game 4 of the series on account of a referee's disputed foul call. Barangay Ginebra thus arranged a best-of-7 semifinals duel against the top-seed Alaska Aces beginning Wednesday. In the other sudden-death quarterfinals' match, James Yap regained his shooting touch, unloading 28 points as the Purefoods TJ Giants finally bundled off the young and over-achieving Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, 95-85, to clinch their quarterfinals series at 3-2. The victory shoved Purefoods into the semifinals against San Miguel Beermen that starts also Wednesday. The Giants won Games 1 and 2, but allowed the Painters to tie the series after dropping Games 3 and 4, leading to Sunday's sudden-death game. Yap shot 11-of-22 from the field, three nights after scoring just eight points in Purefoods' 100-103 loss in Game 4. He scored 13 points when the Giants broke the game wide open in the third quarter. Kerby Raymundo and Roger Yap chipped in 16 points apiece while Marc Pingris and Rafi Reavis shone on defense, respectively hauling down 16 and 10 rebounds. Sol Mercado led the Painters with 23 points while Gabe Norwood had 20.
