Mayor of Jeddah Adel Faqeeh said that they have run short on staff and work at the mayoralty has slowed down following the investigation of municipal officials by the fact finding committee probing the flood disaster. On the sidelines of the workshop to consider developing the eastern part of Jeddah and look into problems east of the Al-Haramain Highway, Faqeeh added that Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, the Emir of Makkah, has issued directives that participants should look at a comprehensive future plan for the city, not just consider parts of it. He said teams worked for two days – Thursday and Friday – to present the final recommendations in the concluding session Saturday. As for immediate projects that the mayoralty intends to carry out, Faqeeh said they include an urgent project named as Al-Samer Dam Project and the canal for carrying rainwater behind the dam to the sea. The project would continue until all the water has been drained.
