Assaf, Director of the Water Unit at the National Water Company in Jeddah said the company intends to carry out new projects east of the highway, according to recommendations made at the recent flood workshop. He stressed the importance of improving the entire water and sanitary drainage sector east of the highway. The new projects include the establishment of treatment plants, new main water networks, tunnels and sanitary drainage networks and the construction of strategic water tanks with a capacity of six million cubic meters in four stages, each stage with a capacity of 1.5 million cubic meters, to be completed in five years. He disclosed the building of new water projects between the east of the highway and the new ring road. He said 90 percent of the pipes damaged by the floods have been repaired and 1,000 water tanks owned by citizens have been cleaned. The company is continuing to provide residents with water free of charge.
