The Durat Al-Sharq International School Wednesday closed the three-day celebration of its 5th founding anniversary which stressed the value of camaraderie and sportsmanship in keeping with its theme of healthy competition and fair play. “We are gathered here for acquaintances, homecoming and most especially friendship,” said Jesus S. Ostos Jr., the school principal, in his message to the schoolchildren and parents who attended the celebration. Wednesday's activities included the Quiz Bee contest in science and mathematics, Spelling Bee and ball games. Officials said the celebration was a success owing to the smooth coordination among teachers, headed by the school activities coordinator Joel Robles, and the full support of the administration. The school, popularly known in the Filipino community as the Pearl of the Orient International School, is headed by Sulafa Ahmed Youssuf as chief executive officer. School officials also recognized the support of the parents to their children and to the school itself. In the dance competitions held at the opening day Monday, the Grade 3 pupils were adjudged champion in the primary level, Grade 5 in intermediate level and the Second Year in high school level. The First Year High School students were declared the Most Disciplined Group, the Grade 5 pupils brought home the Best in Costume award and the Second Year High School students got the Best Cheer Leader award in the cheerleading contest. Luis Angelo Punzalan and Jeah Mae Halog, both from KG 1 were adjudged Mr. and MS. Intramurals 2010 in the preparatory level; Rodolfo Confesor of Grade 2 and Zahera Hadji-Yusoph of Grade 3 in the primary level; Mukthar Hussam of Grade 5 and Margaret Maglunob of Grade 6 in the intermediate level while Hamsa Saguia of Third Year and Eman Mustafa of Fourth Year bagged the title of Mr. and Ms. Intramurals 2010 in the high school level. Sponsors were Western Union, Jollibee, which provided foods and other realted services, Sarawat Superstore, Technimont Arabia represented by Eden Costales and people who donated cash and trophies for the events.
