A committee of three government bodies has been formed to look into the conditions of prisons in the Kingdom. Composed of the Emirate, the Prison Authority, and the General Investigation and Prosecution Authority across of the Kingdom's regions, the committee is tasked with looking into the urgent needs of prisons, conditions of prisoners, and the development of prison infrastructure across the nation. The committee will start its mission by visiting prisons and checking on the health conditions of inmates, and their food and hygiene. The committee will be able to talk directly to inmates and listen for their complaints and needs. Complaints of inmates will help the committee find out what the true conditions of prisons are and work to make the prison environment meet the conditions set by the Human Rights Charter. The composition of this committee came after a deadly fire erupted at the Ahsa prison last week, killing seven inmates and injuring at least 19 others, including three guards. The fire was believed to have been caused by a fight among inmates. – Okaz __
