American journeyman Paul Goydos rolled in a 20-footer to birdie the par-four 10th to grab a one-shot lead midway through the Players Championship third round on Saturday. A stroke off the pace overnight, Goydos picked up his fourth birdie of the day to edge ahead of a tightly bunched leaderboard at the Tournament Players Club at Sawgrass. Bidding for his third PGA Tour title, the 43-year-old was at seven under overall, with compatriot Kenny Perry and Spaniard Sergio Garcia tied for second place. Perry, the overnight pacesetter, had completed nine holes and Garcia 10. Veteran German Bernhard Langer, after nine, and emerging American talent Anthony Kim, after 10, were a further stroke behind at five under in a share of fourth. Langer made a fast start in relatively calm conditions, hitting his approach to four feet at the first for a tap-in birdie and narrowly missing a nine-footer for eagle at the par-five second. That left the 50-year-old German in a tie for the lead with the 47-year-old Perry, who also birdied the second. However, Langer slid backwards with bogeys at the fourth, sixth and eighth before ramming in a 24-footer to birdie the ninth and get back to five under. Perry, like Langer, bogeyed the fourth to reach the turn in level-par 36. Garcia, who had opened with a sparkling 66 on Thursday, claimed a brief share of the lead with a 14-foot birdie putt at the ninth to complete a front nine of one-under 35. His playing partner Goydos bogeyed that hole after hitting his third shot into the back left bunker but pulled ahead of the field with his birdie on the 10th green. Sorenstam seizes lead In Virginia, Swedish superstar Annika Sorenstam notched her second straight round without a bogey on Friday to seize a three-shot lead in the $2.2 million LPGA Michelob Ultra Open. Sorenstam, who notched seven birdies in the first round, had five on Friday in a five-under 66 that left her at 12-under 130. The former world No. 1 shrugged off two rain delays to put herself in position for a second tournament triumph in three weeks. She beat Paula Creamer in a playoff two weeks ago at the Stanford International Pro-Am. Sorenstam teed off at No. 10 and birdied Nos. 12, 16 and 18. She added two more after the turn at three and seven. Lurking behind the former world No. 1 is the current top women's golfer, Lorena Ochoa. Mexico's Ochoa posted five birdies and was tied with South Korean Jeong Jang for second place at nine-under 133. Meena Lee sank four birdies, but closed with bogey at 18 for a 68 and a 135-total that put her five strokes behind Sorenstam. Jimin Kang had an eventful day, notching three birdies and two eagles en route to a 69. She was tied for fifth with four others at 136. South Korea's Kang eagled three and 15, but also bogeyed four holes. Scotland's Mhairi McKay, who held a one-stroke lead after Thursday's first round after a sparkling 63, ballooned to a 77 to fall into a tie for 33rd at 140.
