The Administrative Court in Jeddah is to look into how a prisoner in Jeddah remained languishing in jail for nearly five months after completing his sentence. The lawsuit against Jeddah Prison Administration seeks compensation for “physical and mental torture” for the plaintiff, a man in his forties, and will be heard on Feb. 1. Court sources said that only the judiciary has the authority to extend a jail term, and that the court is likely to award damages, taking into consideration the plaintiff's social status and income. Jeddah Prisons reportedly said a request had been made to hand over the prisoner at the end of his prison sentence but that the instructions were not carried through.
