A monument of former President Corazon “Cory” Aquino unveiled Monday to mark her 77th birthday at the Luneta park in Manila. Aquino, widow of slain Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr., was installed as the country's president in 1986 following the ouster of former president Ferdinand Marcos in the historic EDSA People Power Revolution and recognized globally as an icon of democracy. She died on Aug.1, 2009 after months of battling colon cancer.
