The Administration of Operations and Maintenance at the Municipaliy Jeddah has begun developing the city's northern cornice starting with a three-kilometer area between Fatima Az-Zahra'a Mosque and Al-Shira'a recreation center. The project aims to turn the area into a recreational facility equipped with benches, children plyground and a public sand beach, in addition to paths designated for the handicapped. The Director General of Operation and Maintenance at Jeddah's Mayoralty, Engineer Faisal Shawli, said the development operation is to be done within two months, as it is being executed in three stages, including reconstruction, pavements construction and alteration of the concrete path parallel to the beach, which has been dangerously affected by sea waves and poorly protected. Shawli said parking lots would be constructed at the Cornish entries, in addition to internal pavements for sitting, external ones along the road, and walking paths with plant beds among them. Shawli said his administration is carrying out executing a mechanism to clean Jeddah's 220-km rainwater networks and its side openings, in addition to maintaining its 10 pumping stations. This would prevent the spread of mosquitoes that cause dengue fever and eradicate bad smells, as it would preserve the environment surrounding the network's openings. Shawli called on residents of areas adjacent to the network's access points not to consider them as garbage dumb, adding the aim of cleaning them is to protect people's health with the preservation of the city's general view.
