The German ambassador to the Kingdom, Volkmar Wenzel, has described Saudi Arabia as the “hub of stability” in the region. Speaking at a lecture at the Institute of Diplomatic Relations in Riyadh, Ambassador Wenzel said that “ relations between the two countries go back to before the establishment of the Kingdom” and noted that a friendship treaty was signed between the German Reich and the Hijaz Kingdom and Najd and their extended regions in 1929. The first German diplomatic mission opened in Jeddah in 1931, he added. “Since that time, relations between the two countries have been notable for their friendliness and cooperation, and a meeting of viewpoints on numerous issues,” the ambassador said.
