Jeddah's Health Affairs has asked the director of Al-Amal Hospital to provide them with detailed reasons for his suspending an accountant and accusing him of being “insane”. Health Affairs has also asked the city's Mental Health department to provide a conclusive report on the mental condition of the accountant. The hospital reported the accountant to Al-Salama Police saying that he was “having fits of madness”, but later started to backtrack when asked by the Mental Health Department to provide a full report on the individual and his work performance. The accountant has since threatened to sue the hospital for “psychological torture” and loss of earnings. The sacked Assistant Director of Medical Services at Al-Amal Hospital, meanwhile, has rebuked allegations that he was not up to the job. “On the contrary, I put forward 21 proposals for the improvements to the standard of the services at the hospital,” he said. Al-Amal has come into the public eye for continued attempts by drug addict patients to escape the facility and subsequent allegations of maltreatment and poor services. According to sources, meetings continue at the hospital to address the situation.
