The Administrative Court in Makkah has exonerated the governor of the region of Al-Kamel from charges of having illegally jailed a 77-year-old man for 28 days. Governor Mutlaq Al-Baqami had been accused of jailing Sa'di Al-Sulami at a police station in 2008 following an argument between Al-Sulami and a neighbor over a plot of land. After nine hearings the court ruled that Al-Baqami had no connection with the unlawful detention and told Al-Sulami's family to instead pursue legal action against the police chief at Al-Kamel Police Station, the “executive authority that ordered the detention.” The family of Al-Sulami, who passed away only a few days ago, said they intended to “seek justice for their father,” and that they would file their case within two weeks.
