Skeletal remains of 60 people were uncovered in a suspected graveyard in remote area in Jizan region. Erosion caused by continuous blowing winds in the area for the last few weeks was believed to expose the burial ground. The human bones were visibly seen on the Darb-Qadib road because of erosion effects, said Sheikh Eisa Adawi, imam of Darb mosque. “It is a graveyard complex with all bodies buried in the Qibla (towards Makkah) direction, suggesting that they were bodies of Muslims, he said. Some graves were not affected by erosion, he added. “Nobody of the residents of the area knew anything about it,” said Mousa Ojaiman, a resident. The residents were surprised to see this graveyard complex in their area that had no reference in the history of the oral tradition of the region, he added. He urged the authorities to wall the area for the sanctuary of the dead. He called for a thorough archeological research to know more about the history of his own land. Okaz __
