A total of SR30,000 has been donated by the Al-Bir Charity Association to help newly-married orphans get a start in life. The association will present 15,000 vouchers, to be used for the purchase of various household items. “We will provide the new families with vouchers for refrigerators, ovens, vacuum cleaners, washing machines and televisions,” said Mahmoud Abdullah Baqis, Director of the Al-Bir Association. A special committee of the charity will determine a couple's needs before and after they sign their marriage contract. The association will also help couples to prepare psychologically for marriage. “Various courses need to be taken by both spouses, so that they are psychologically trained for their married life,” said Baqis. The new programs will be run in cooperation with the Al-Mawadah center for family guidance and the Ministry of Social Affairs in the Makkah region. “The committee will provide solutions for problems that the couple may face in the future, and will also deal with issues involved in providing shelter, and financial and psychological help for divorced women,” he said.
