The Najran Association on Tuesday honored Bahra Civil Defense Sergeant Manae Nasir Al-Yami and Pakistani citizen Farman Ali who saved several people from drowning in the recent floods that hit the city. The meeting was held under the auspices of Prince Misha'l Bin Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz, Governor of Najran. It was arranged and supervised by Muhammad Sugheyar Bin Qadra, Chief Sergeant in the Saudi Armed Forces. Most of those who attended the meeting were men from the Yami tribe of Najran who paid glowing tributes to the two men for their humanitarian services. Manae Nasir Al-Yami saved the life of 12 persons. He tied a long rope to his waist and reached the place where 12 persons had lost any hope for their survival. He brought them one by one on his back swimming while facing the strong current of flood water with the help of several persons who were pulling the rope. After bringing back the last man Al-Yami was exhausted, coughed up blood and became unconscious. He was rushed to a hospital where he fought bravely for his life and the doctors were able to save him. Farman Ali saved the life of 14 persons and in trying to save more he was swept away by the strong current. Dr. Turki Bin Saud Al-Haider from the Yami tribe narrated the heroic tales of the two and said they “deserve our admiration because they did not care for their lives and saved the lives of residents and citizens”. Farman Ali sacrificed his life and achieved martyrdom and the pleasure of Allah, he said. Farman Ali's brothers Muhammad Aziz and Hasan Ali also attended the meeting. A shield of appreciation was given posthumously to Farman which was collected by one of his brothers. Similar shield was presented to Manae Nasir Al
