What is the ruling regarding acts of jihad by means of suicide, such as attaching explosives to a car and storming the enemy, whereby the person knows without a doubt that he shall die as a result of this action? A – Indeed, my opinion is that he is regarded as one who has killed himself (committed suicide), and as a result he shall be punished in Hell, because of what is authentically reported on the authority of the Prophet (peace be upon him): “Indeed, whoever (intentionally) kills himself, then certainly he will be punished in the Fire of Hell, wherein he shall dwell forever.” (Al-Bukhari, no. 5778, and Muslim no. 109) However, one who is ignorant and does not know, and assumes his action was good and pleasing to Allah, then we hope Allah forgives him for what he did out of (ignorant) ijtihad, even though I do not find any excuse for him in the present day. This is because this type of suicide is well-known and widespread among the people. So it is necessary for the person to ask the people of knowledge (scholars) regarding it, until the right guidance for him becomes distinct from the error. What is surprising is that these people kill themselves despite Allah having forbidden this. Allah says: “And do not kill yourselves. Surely, Allah is Most Merciful to you.” (Qur'an, 4:29) Many among them do not desire anything except revenge on the enemy, by whatever means, be it Halaal or Haraam. So they only want to satisfy their thirst for revenge. – Sheikh Bin Uthaymeen; Kayfa Nu'alij Waqi'una Al-Aleem, pg. 119 Lost property in sacred places Q- A person found a watch in the sacred city of Makkah and it has been with him now for over four years. What is the solution regarding it? Should it be returned to Makkah again, or its value can be given in charity to the poor? A – It is not permissible to take lost property from the sacred places, except for one who intends to announce it. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “It is not permissible (to take) the things, which are found dropped therein, except to announce (them).” (Al-Bukhari, no. 2434 and Muslim, no. 1355) He must submit the lost property to the High Court in Makkah so it may be forwarded to the committee responsible for lost property in Makkah. Having done that and turned in repentance to Allah for his nelgect – since he did not announce it earlier – he will be free of blame. – Sheikh Bin Baz; Fatawa Islamiyah, vol. 5, pg. 26
