Tensions in Malaysia Stories like “Communal tension rises in Malaysia” (Jan. 9) is what make many non-Muslims suspicious of Muslims. They wonder what kind of world do Muslims want. The standard reaction to disagreement that is shown in media is violence. If Malaysian government undermines the credibility of the court system, it will be a dangerous step. Learn some history, folks. The word Allah predates the religion and it is a word that is used by Arab Jews, Christians, and Druze. Language belongs to all those who use it. Surely Arabic is not owned by any one religion. Why do people allow themselves to be divided in this way? Does not the same sun shine over us? Do we not all see the same moon? It's a strange thing when a “majority” behaves and is treated as a “minority.” It makes them spoiled, ignorant, dependent, and easily led by unwise leadership. Apparently not all Malay have to be Muslim. The tribal Malay of Sabah and Sarawak are apparently reading Catholic magazines which would be completely forbidden in the rest of Malaysia. So they use the word for God that Catholics in Lebanon and other Arab countries use.
