Dr. Syed Khusro Hussaini, president of the Khaja Education Society, Gulbarga, Karnataka, and a member of the General Assembly of International Islamic Relief Organization, Saudi Arabia, who is here to perform Umrah, attended a seminar titled “Muslim Education and Rights of Minorities in India” organized by Socio-Reform Society last week in Jeddah. While addressing the seminar, Dr. Khusro said Islam emphasizes on the importance of education and science. He said that the solution of the problems of the Ummah and the humanity lie only in education. Dr. Khusro heads the Khaja Education Society, which runs 15 institutions including primary and secondary schools, engineering and medical colleges in Gulbarga. Hussaini's father, Syed Shah Mohammed Hussaini, the recipient of the country's civilian Padmashri award in 2004, started the society. “An educational revolution is taking place in India. Madrasas that confined themselves to religious education must move to acquire licenses for technical and medical institutes. Muslims must educate themselves to come at par with the non-Muslim majority of India so that they work together for the development of country,” said Dr. Khusro in his speech. The seminar was presided over by Maulana Muhammad Tahir Madni, general secretary of Rashtriya Ulema Council, who was an invitee to the distribution ceremony of Prince Naif International Prize for Outstanding Works on Sunnah and Islamic Studies that was held recently. Muhammad Mujahid Syed made a brief comparative study between the educational traditions of the Medieval and modern Muslim Ummah. Alim Khan Falaki was the main organizer and host of the event. __
